Jack W. Kale, Jr. died July 30, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.


Jack was the son of Jack W. Kale, Sr. and Betty Lucia Daniel Kale. He was born at Clark AFB, Pampanga, Philippines. He was raised in Macon, GA, Decatur, GA, and his family then settled in Albany, GA where he grew up. He had been a resident in Dothan for 34 years. He graduated from Westover High School in 1970 in Albany where he was Valedictorian. He was National Merit Scholar for his Georgia School District. He attended and graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelors Degree in Physics in 1974. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honorary and Phi Eta Sigma Honorary. He spent a summer at Los Alamos Nuclear Laboratory working in their physics lab for the summer as an Intern. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Nuclear Engineering from University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1975. He was employed by Commonwealth Edison in Illinois and came to work for Southern Nuclear Plant Farley in 1978 in various capacities including Senior Reactor Operator, QA, Chemistry, Root Cause and was a Senior Engineer working in his last years as a Reactor Training Teacher in the Training Dept.


He served as an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 38, Dothan, many years and was a mentor to many scouts in the Wiregrass Area. He was in the Order of the Arrow and Woodbadge. He felt that Math and Science were important to the future of youth and by Governor's appointment served as a lay Industry appointee to the Alabama State Math and Science Course of Studies Committee in 2008. He was an avid Model Rocketeer and was a member of the Southeast Alabama Rocketry Club and the National Association of Rocketry. He used this love to further science and math knowledge by doing demonstrations for youth education outreach. He was a member of Gideons International and did lay speaking. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan where he taught 7-8th grade Sunday School for 17 years. His Sunday School children were very important to him. He was involved in Mission work and did Disaster Recovery work connected with UMMCOR. He enjoyed building playgrounds and whatever could be useful to his community.


He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his father Jack W. Kale, Sr.


He is survived by his wife Rhonda Kale, their children; his son, Rev. Jack W. Kale, III (Sandra) of Gulf Breeze, FL and his daughter, Kathryn Kale of Gulf Breeze, FL, three grandchildren, Gabriel, Emma and Julia Kale, his Mother, Betty D. Kale, formerly of Dothan, now Lakeland, FL, his brother, Danny Kale (Debbie) of Lakeland FL, his uncle John Kale of Belmont, NC, his aunt Betty Kale of Matthews, NC, two nieces, two great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.


Services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm prior to the service in the church parlor. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers may be sent or donations to the Gideon International Bible Fund may be given. Donations may also be made to the First United Methodist, Dothan, Youth Wing Fund.
