Jackson Eugene Granberry passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 13th. He was 94 yrs. old.

A visitation will be held at Holman Mortuary in Headland on Thursday evening from 5 until 7 P.M. at the mortuary. Funeral service will be at Cedar Springs Baptist Church (located on Cedar Springs Rd off highway 52) on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend William Irwin and Reverend Brian Combs officiating.

Mr. Granberry was a pillar of the community and led his life guided by his strong faith in God. He bought the farm on county road 55 with his wife in 1947 where it has continued to be a landmark in the Ashford Community since. He was honored by his children at age ninety with a sign at the farm acknowledging "Granberry’s Corner".

He farmed 250 acres for 55 years growing peanuts, cotton and soybeans. One of his many loves was seeing a beautifully planted field, and never has there been a tractor he was not interested in knowing all about.

"Eughie ", as most people knew him, learned to love music at an early age. He played the guitar and the harmonica and loved sharing his love of God through his music. In his 70’s, he and a group of fellow musicians formed a small band known as the "Keenagers". They enjoyed playing for nursing homes, senior centers and other special events.

He was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church since 1947, and was there for every service as long as physically able. He spent most of his life serving as a deacon in his church and was always available for any of his church family.

As a WWII veteran, he served in Japan and witnessed the tragedy of Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped. He was, also fortunate to be one of the first to be a part of the "Honor Flight " to see the WWII memorial.

Eughie was a Mason, member of the Farmers Co-Op of Ashford and served on the Wiregrass Electric Commission. He also belonged to the Alabama Farm Bureau and traveled to Washington DC as a delegate.

His death was preceded by his wife , Margaret, who passed away in 2007. They shared a happy, wonderful marriage for 66 yrs. Together they reared four children who all survive him, as follows: Phyllis Justice Gerike (Harold), Emily G Young (Bob), Rickey E Granberry and Angela M Young (Gregg). Also surviving him are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is survived by one sister, Ruth G Marshall, and many nieces and nephews.

A man who had the respect of anyone who knew him and the love of all who came close to him, he left a true legacy rarely seen today. The void he leaves behind is wide and deep. His family and friends grieve from his loss as they move forward...never forgetting his love.
