James Alford of Daleville, AL, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Medical Center Enterprise. He was 92.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 1, 2013, at Daleville Baptist Church with Rev. Jud Waldrop and Dr. James Kilpatrick officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Alford while serving in the U. S. Army during World War II participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Alford later retired from the U. S. Air Force. He served the U. S. Government for over 40 years.
Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Ernestine Alford.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Emily Alford; his children, Barbara Alford Wittner (Carl) Mobile, AL; Martha Alford Reynolds (David) Wake Forest, NC; Patricia Nell Alford, Wake Forest, NC; James Larry Alford (Ginger) Madison, AL; step-children, Pamela B. Jones, Daleville, AL; Ian MacLeod (Susan) Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Patrick Alford, Steven Reynolds, Mark Bond, Dr. Joseph Stewart, Sgt. Jerry Jones, Jason Jones and Lt. Commander Aaron Erickson.
Special thanks to the staff of Kelly Place Assisted Living, Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation and Medical Center Enterprise for concern and wonderful care given to Mr. Alford.
