JAMES ALLEN SMITHERMAN
DOTHAN. . .James Allen (Jim) Smitherman, a resident of Dothan, died late Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. He was 55.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 24, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Sean Morgan officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
Jim Smitherman was born in Panama City, Florida and lived in Dothan most of his adult lifetime. He was a graduate of Dothan High School and served his country in the U. S. Navy. Jim was formerly employed by NAHTOD Tool & Die as a machine operator. He was a member of the New Seasons Fellowship in Headland. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Eulas Allen Randolph Smitherman, and his step-father, Jim Rukvina.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Brittany Welch (Steve), and Dianna Smitherman; his mother, Margaret Rukvina, all of Dothan; two sisters, Cathy Markley, Slocomb; and Tammy Orloff, Wicksburg; two step-sisters, Babette Arnold, Tampa, FL; and Sue Gustin (Tom), Cape Cod, MA; two step-brothers, Keith Rukvina (Rhonda), Dothan; and Mitchel Rukvina, Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Bailey Anderson, John Peyton Jones, and Damon James Welch; an uncle, Bill Fowler (Bonnie); several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Amit Kumar Bhise and the nursing staff on 6 East of the Southeast Alabama Medical Center for their special care and kindness shown to Jim and his family.
