James Anderson Floyd, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, at the age of 77, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 10, 1947, he was the first of seven children born to the late Rev. James A. Floyd and Nadine Callins Floyd. Four siblings preceded him in death, Sheila Milliner, Glenda Thompson, Arthur “Billy” Floyd, and George “King” Floyd.
Jim gave his life to Christ at an early age beginning with Shiloh Baptist Church, Headland, and later united with First Missionary Baptist Church.
Jim was joined in holy matrimony with to his high school sweetheart, Minnie Lois Williams on August 13, 1966.
A proud graduate of Carver High School in 1965, Jim carried their good ole Carver High spirit throughout his life. He enjoyed talking about his days playing basketball and baseball, and how Coach Bryant and Coach Morrison took him to Alabama State University and got him a scholarship to play baseball. In 1967, he was drafted into the US Army and served during the Vietnam War and later completed a tour in Korea. He showed immense courage and a commitment to this nation for 20 years. His role as a recruiting officer in Decatur, AL was marked by record- setting achievements, as he inspired countless individuals to serve their country with the same fervor he did. Following his military career, Jim continued to serve his community through his work as a Letter Carrier until his well-deserved retirement.
Jim enjoyed the simple joys of life, watching sports on tv, grilling for the family, sitting on the patio talking noise with anyone who would listen, sharing a moment with customers on his mail route, at the doctor’s office, and grocery store, and going the back way (every time) to play the lottery. If you knew him- you knew him!
Jim leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife of 57 years, Minnie Lois Floyd; children, JeRal Floyd, Tamla Floyd, Keevis Floyd; grandchildren, Jerveris Floyd, Mi-Kell Floyd, KeEra Floyd, JarKeh Floyd, Maurice Owens; great grandchildren, Romero Floyd, Winter Scott, Summerlyn Scott, and Rajon Floyd; sisters, Lilliana Adams, Carol Harris; aunt, Daisy Callins; brother-in-law, Rev. Willie (Gladys) Williams; sister in law, LaBrenda (Lewis) Roberson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; our loving, caring, and supportive family who went above and beyond, Rico Londrell Pearson, Gregory Crawford, and Clifford “Gold Tooth” Benson.
