BERTHA COMMUNITY…James Andrew Blankenship, a resident of the Bertha Community, died Tuesday night, May 12, 2015, at his home. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 16, 2015, in the New Hope Baptist Church with Reverend W.M. Todd and Pastor Judson Waldrop officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Nancy Gast, 6349 North County Road 67, Skipperville, Alabama 36374.
James Blankenship was born May 12, 1933 in Bertha, Alabama, son of the late J.S. and Pearl Aman Blankenship. He attended Echo School and Abbeville High School before earning his Bachelor of Arts at Troy University and also a Master of Arts from the University of Alabama. He began his teaching career at Enterprise High School and continued his career at Carroll High School for twenty-five years. He resided in the Bertha Community of Dale County where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at New Hope Baptist Church. While teaching at Carroll High, he founded and operated Press Craft Printing Company from 1968 until 2011. James maintained his sharp wit and sense of humor until the very end. He passed away at his home on his 82nd birthday. James was preceded in death by his brothers, Quinton, Theron, Joe and Curtis Blankenship.
Surviving relatives include his wife, June Enfinger Blankenship, Bertha Community; two sons, Paul Blankenship (Kimberly), Bertha Community and Steven Blankenship (Kerri), Dothan; a brother, Winston Blankenship, Tallahassee, FL; a granddaughter, Lauren Blankenship; a brother-in-law, Gene Enfinger (Kathryn), Grand Bay, AL; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Robert Enfinger, Jackie Blankenship, Danny Enfinger, Steven Blankenship, Paul Blankenship, and Sam Alexander.
