ABBEVILLE. . .James B. Strickland, a resident of Abbeville, died early Tuesday morning, July 9, 2024, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. He was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Matthew Quincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries, 2681 Rocky Ridge Lane, Birmingham, AL 35216.
Mr. Strickland was born and reared in the Wills Crossroads community of Henry County, son of the late James Alexander Strickland and Gladys Thelma Starling Strickland. He lived in Abbeville for the past fifty-nine years. Mr. Strickland was a member of Old Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Brown’s Crossroads Masonic Lodge No. 529. Mr. Strickland was retired from WestPoint Stevens as a Maintenance Mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wives, Henrietta Weems Strickland and Mary Davis Henderson Strickland, an infant sister, a brother, Bun Floyd Strickland, and a grandson-in-law, Jodie Bezdek.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Shelia Strickland, Abbeville; a son, Mike Strickland (Pat), Headland; grandchildren, Cindy Bezdek and JonMichael Brady (Jasmine); great-grandchildren, Cooper, Adele and Mavis; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be David Barnes, JonMichael Brady, Pate Weems, Thomas Murphy, Russell Money and Chris Parker.
