James Carlton Hill
James Carlton Hill, a resident of Ashford, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 87.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Casey officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Monday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Park United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1007, Ashford, AL 36312.
Mr. Hill was born April 4, 1926, in Smith’s Station, AL, the youngest of nine children, and lived his early life in Phenix City. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Phillips Hardware for many years. He was the owner of Hill Oil Company and following the sale of the business, he worked as a salesman for the new owners, Upchurch Oil Company for several years. He later owned Hill Motor Company until his retirement. He was a member of Grace Park United Methodist Church in Ashford and was a member of Ashford Masonic Lodge #493 and the Wiregrass Shriners.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Patricia Harper Hill, in 2010.
Survivors include one daughter, Joy Hill Daniel and her husband, Jerry, Griffin, GA; two sons, Jim Hill and his wife, Tanya, Pansey, and Ric Hill and his wife, Lisa, Ozark; five grandchildren, Drew Hill and his wife, Tammie, Opelika, George Adam Hill, Ashford, Megan Hill Didier, and her husband, Ben, Austin, TX, Toni Hill and Derek Hill, both of Ozark; two great grandsons, Ethan Hill and Harrison Hill, both of Opelika; a sister, Clara Hill Weaver, Phenix City, AL; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Doris Hummel, Phenix City, AL.
