James Carroll Lanton, 73, of 14509 River Street, Blakely, GA, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019, at the Southeast Health Medical Center, Dothan, AL. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, August 19, 2019 at 11 AM EDT in the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, 21802 Lucile Rd., Blakely, GA, with Rev. Sterling Jones officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Don Craft, Jack Watson, Glynn Floyd, Derrick Craft, Alex Craft and Aarron Carlson. The burial to follow in the Blakely Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will have a visitation Sunday evening, August 18, 2019 from 6 until 8 PM EDT at the funeral home. Mr. Lanton was born, April 8, 1946, in Blakely, GA, to the late Thurman Byrd Lanton and Agnes Mae Edmondson Lanton. He was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Columbia, AL. He was a carpenter in commercial construction and a veteran of the US Army. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ray Lanton and three sisters; Minnie Pearl Lanton, Shelby Jean Everson and Patricia Wilson. His survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Floyd Lanton of Blakely, GA, one son, Jamie Lanton and Amanda of Colquitt, GA, two brothers; Rudolph Lanton and Shelby Jean of Columbia, AL, John Wallace Lanton and Linda of Webb AL, a sister, Rhonda Joyce Herring and Earl of Columbia, AL. He also has four grandchildren; William Thomas Lanton of Blakely, William John McLeod, Jr. and Chasity of Bainbridge, GA, Nathan Matthew McLeod and Kristen Gail McLeon both of Colquitt, GA, and two great-grandchildren, Kayden John McLeod and Grayson Lynn McLeod both of Bainbridge, GA.
