James Charles “J.C.” Elmore entered Heaven’s gate to join his beloved wife, Augusta, on Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2015.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Dothan City Cemetery with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing.
J.C. was born to Bascom and Dovie Elmore on April 21, 1929 in Dothan. He attended school in Dothan and played football as one of “Rip’s Boys.” After graduating from Dothan High School, J.C. joined the United States Army and served in the occupation of Germany. He and his high school sweetheart, Augusta Walden, were married September 24, 1950 at First United Methodist Church.

In 1997, he and his son, Jim, expanded the business to include a tractor-trailer division, Bucaneer Express. J.C. retired from running the business to care for his homebound wife. He and his beloved wife were faithful members of First United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board. He was also head usher for many years at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Zelema Smith; and his wife, Augusta.
Surviving family members include his two children, Laurie Axtell (Mike) and Jim Elmore; four Axtell grandsons, Michael (Sarah), Branden (Stephanie), Philip (Amber), and Daniel (Reagan Rankin); two precious great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Sydney; his sister, Ceretha Kent; and five nieces.
