James D. McCall, Sr., a resident of Dothan, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 at a local hospital. He was 63.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:30 pm until 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Ridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mr. McCall was born on August 27, 1951 at Tyndall Air Force Base in Bay County, Florida and moved to Dothan at an early age. He was a 1969 graduate of Dothan High School. Mr. McCall joined the U. S. Navy for 8 years and would then return to Dothan. He worked in construction and later was employed with AMX until his death.
Mr. McCall was preceded in death by his brother, Edward McCall and by his father, James McCall.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Simmons McCall; his sons, Chris (Jeanice) McCall, Sr., Jimmy (Cilla) McCall; his daughter, Danielle (Jeffery) Shelley; his stepsons, Robert (Vicki) Simmons, and Matthew (Danielle) Simmons; his grandchildren, Adrienne McCall, Ashleigh McCall, Chris McCall, Jr., Elijah Shelley, Jozie Shelley, Baylee Lovelidge, Ryleah Meers, Grayson Meers, Garrett McCall, Zane Simmons, Zack Simmons, Anna Simmons, Owen Simmons, Evan Simmons, Bella Johnson, and Mario Johnson; 1 great-grandson, Xander Lovelidge-Lowe; his brother, Jim (Kathy) McCall; his mother, Vernell Royer; several nephews also survive.
