HEADLAND. . . James David Jones, a resident of Headland, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 84.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 27, 2018, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Joe Watson officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P M Monday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 545 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36301.


            David Jones was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Lydmon David Jones and Minnie Knowles Jones. He was a 1953 graduate of Headland High School. David served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a disabled veteran. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans. David was formerly employed by Holman-Headland & Abbeville Mortuaries Inc. He was preceded in death by his step-mother Hazel Bradley.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Lauvern Skipper Jones; two daughters, Debbie Faison (Larry), Lynda DeeDon (Glenn), and a son Mark Jones (Wanda) , all of Headland; two step-children, Brenda Norton, Panama City, FL; and Judy Akridge (Anthony), Dothan; a sister, Glenda Jones Polston (Jerl), Headland;  ten grandchildren, Chad Johnson (Brigette), Daniel Johnson, Davey Jones (Brooke), Kaylee Nelson, Joshua Jones, Stevan Stankovic, Nikolas Stankovic, Mandy McGowin (Quay), Candace Rushing (Alex) and Brent Whitten (Brooke); fifteen great-grandchildren; and the mother of David’s children, Carol Dykes of Headland.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Chad Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Brent Whitten, Josh Jones, Davey Jones, Alex Rushing and Quay McGowin.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Walter J. Doty, III, special caregiver, Angie Condrey,  Covenant Hospice and nurse, Cynthia Longgrear, and Headland Fire & Rescue  for the loving care shown to David during his illness.
