Mr. James Edward Herring, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Flowers Hospital.  He was 84.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, August 3, 2012, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Newton City Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Hale officiating and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2291 County Road 31, Newton, Alabama 36352.


Mr. Herring was born April 18, 1928 in Dale County, the son of the late Leamon Herring and Willie Martin.  He retired from AFS at Ft. Rucker as an aircraft mechanic in 1992, following 38 years of service.  James was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War.  He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Hanks Herring. 


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dillard Enfinger Herring of Newton; daughters:  Wanda Herring (Charles) Tye of Newton, Jeannie (Steve) Lawrence of Newton; son, James (Darlene) Enfinger of Newton; sisters:  Laurada Harris of Ozark, Dotsie Brannon of Ozark, Sara Daniels of Dothan, eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
