James Frederick Grondin, age 71, of Enterprise, AL passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Patrick Maher celebrating and Father Gregory Okorobia concelebrating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Ronald McDonald House of Philadelphia, PA, 3925 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104; Parent Advocate Down Syndrome, 1919 Oxmoor Road #416, Birmingham, AL 35209; Missionaries of the Poor, PO Box 29893, Atlanta, GA 30359.
He was born on August 25, 1941, in Columbus, MS. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1963 with a BS in mechanical engineering. He received an MS in 1965 from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA in 1969 from St. Louis University.
He started his career as an engineer with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, St. Louis, in 1965. He began working in the garment industry in 1971 and moved to Enterprise, Alabama, in 1986, where he became Vice President of Manufacturing Services at Kleinert’s. He retired in 2003.
Jim was an active member of St. John Catholic Church where he served on various committees. He loved his family and was an active presence in their lives. He loved Notre Dame and returned often to the campus for football games. He enjoyed working outside, travelling, bobbing in the ocean waves, bargain shopping, and dining at his favorite restaurants, especially with his lunch bunch.
Mr. Grondin was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hilda Grondin of Columbus, MS and a sister, Nancy Morgan of Rock Hill, SC.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Grondin, Enterprise; two daughters, Karen Maher (Brendan) Westfield, NJ; Susan Bolte (Jeff) Dunwoody, GA; two sons, Steven Grondin (Andree) Hoover, AL; Kevin Grondin, Atlanta, GA; eleven grandchildren, Aidan, Caroline and Sarah Maher; Jack, Will and Kate Bolte; Mary Katherine, Michael, Anna Claire, Lucy and Joseph Grondin; one brother, Robert Grondin (Jan) Columbus, MS and six nephews.
