JAMES GLYNN ETHRIDGE
ABBEVILLE. . .James Glynn Ethridge, a resident of the Brown’s Crossroads community of Henry County, died Saturday night, August 18, 2012, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was 59.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, in the Balkum Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Chestnut and Reverend Scott Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Free Will Baptist Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Balkum Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 193, Headland, AL 36345 or Union Free Will Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Will Maddox, 2651 County Road 53, Abbeville, AL. 36310.
Glynn Ethridge was a lifelong resident of the Brown’s Crossroad community of Henry County, son of the late James Holt Ethridge and Dorothy Mims Ethridge. He attended Abbeville High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Abbeville Christian Academy in 1971. Glynn was also a 1976 graduate of Auburn University where he received a B. S. Degree in Agronomy. He was engaged in farming all his life.
Glynn was an active member of the Balkum Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. A member of the Haleburg Volunteer Fire Department, he formerly served as President of the Henry County Farm Bureau Federation. In 2007, his family was selected as Henry County Farm Family of the Year by the Henry County Farm-City Committee.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Marcia Gulledge Ethridge, Brown’s Crossroad community; two daughters, Brooke Ethridge (Dale Hrebik), New Orleans, LA; and Lauren Ethridge Harpe (Drew), Brown’s Crossroads community; a granddaughter, Camille Harpe; a sister, Gayle Ethridge Blankenship, Havana, FL; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Jean Gulledge, Headland; sisters-in-law, Shelia Welch, Debbie Ethridge (Keith), all of Headland; brother-in-law, Anthony Gulledge (Amy), Prattville, AL; several aunts and uncles.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Glen Morgan, Jeff Bostick, Jamie Shelley, Tony Strickland, T. J. Allen, Doug Shumate and Tom Ethridge.
