COLUMBIA…James Gordon Daughtry, Sr., a resident of Columbia, died Thursday morning, October 23, 2014, at his home. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 25, 2014, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Reverend Tony Deese officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Bertha Community. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Columbia, P.O. Box 267, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mr. Daughtry, son of the late Major Dewey Daughtry and Maude Lee Jordan Daughtry, was born in Birmingham and reared in Opelika and Ozark. He served his country in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Daughtry formerly lived in Linden, Alabama and Ozark before moving to Columbia in 1963. He was retired from Georgia Pacific in Cedar Springs, GA in the electrical and instrumentation department. Mr. Daughtry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Sellers Daughtry, a son, James Daughtry, Jr., two sisters, Jeanette Martin and Mildred Crider, a brother, Eugene Robert Daughtry, and a step-son, Joseph Larry Enfinger.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Martha Jean Byrd Daughtry, Columbia; a daughter, Elise Armstrong (Scott), Headland; four sons, Billy Daughtry (Jeanette), Columbia; Dennis Daughtry, Abbeville; Eugene Daughtry, Columbia and Steven Daughtry (Carrie), Opelika; a step-daughter, Mary Lou Marchman (Roger), Pensacola and a step-son, Ben Enfinger, Dothan; seven grandchildren and six step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
