SUMMERDALE, AL… Mr. James H. Estes, a resident of Summerdale, AL (formerly of Ozark), died early Friday morning, June 21, 2019 in Fairhope Health & Rehab Facility, Fairhope, AL. He was 89.


            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 23, 2019 in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Reverend Jim Hill officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.


            Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1971 Deese Road, Ozark, AL 36360 or to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36303.


            Mr. Estes, son of the late Olen Estes and Corine Hamilton Estes, was a native of Lafayette, Alabama. He was a graduate of Auburn University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in1956 and Master’s degree in 1969. Mr. Estes was retired from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System as the County Agent for Dale County after many years of employment. He was a member of the Ozark Kiwanis Club since 1963 and in 2004 received the George F. Hixson Fellowship Award. Mr. Estes was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he was Deacon Emeritus, formerly served as the church treasurer, and taught the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War Era. Mr. Estes was preceded in death by wife, Audrey Moye Estes; sister, Pearl Heath; three brothers, Dewitt Estes, Floyd Estes, and Robert Estes.


            Surviving relatives include his sister, Bernice Williams, Summerville, AL; a brother-in-law, Luther Heath, Lanett, AL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
