COLUMBIA. . .James H. (Jim) Mulkey, a resident of Columbia, died early Wednesday morning, January 21, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. He was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 23, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Pastor Marc Pannell and Reverend Tony Deese officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Columbia, P.O. Box 267, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mr. Mulkey, son of the late Dan Gordon Mulkey, Sr. and Hilma Saunders Mulkey, was born in Ensley, Alabama and moved to Columbia as a young adult. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Mulkey lived in Bessemer, Alabama thirty years before returning to Columbia in 1990. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Bessemer and was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Mr. Mulkey was retired as an Industrial Inspector from Pullman Standard Mfg. Co. in Bessemer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan Mulkey, Jr. and George Mulkey.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty years, Clyde Bowen Mulkey; a daughter, Martha Mulkey Hawkins (Flynn), Quinton, AL; a son, James Richard Mulkey (April G.), Woodstock, AL; three grandchildren, Kristen Hawkins Pannell (Marc), Kayla Hawkins, Michael Hawkins (Amanda); two great-grandchildren, Addison Pannell and Presley Pannell.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Flynn Hawkins, Michael Hawkins, Jessie Ingram, Kevin White, Chris Bowen, and Gregory Williams.
