JAMES HARRY JOHNSON, JR.
DOTHAN. . .James Harry (Jimmy) Johnson, Jr., a resident of Dothan, died Monday, February 3, 2014. He was 58.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 6, 2014, in the Newville Baptist Church with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. and Reverend Stacy Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in the Newville Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Jimmy Johnson was born in Tallahassee, Florida and lived in Newville most of his adult lifetime. He was a graduate of the Abbeville Christian Academy and received a B.S. in Education from the University of Alabama. Jimmy was formerly employed as a high school teacher and football coach at Niceville High School, Eufaula High School, and several other schools in Florida and Alabama. He was a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James Harry Johnson, Sr., and a son, James Harry (Trey) Johnson, III.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Audrey Johnson, Destin, FL; Amanda Johnson, Wewahitchka, FL; Mikki Barnes, Ft Walton Beach, FL; and Melissa Byars (Neal), Lynn Haven, FL; his mother and step-father, Lanette Johnson Culbreth and Rudy Culbreth, Dothan; a sister, June Meares Collins (Joe Frank), Dothan; a brother, Kirk Meares (Mary Beth), Newnan, GA; five grandchildren, John Wesley Jackson, Ivy Stephens, Oren Stewart, Elam Stewart, and Cameron Barnes.
