James Holland Crews of Samson, AL passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at his home. He was 92 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Anna Crews Camphouse officiating. Burial will follow in the New Home Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the New Home Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Elizabeth Thompson, 1726 South State Highway 87, Samson, AL 36477. Those wishing to provide food for the family, please carry it to New Home Baptist Church social hall for the family meal following the service.
Mr. Crews was born in Tampa, FL on March 14, 1932, to the late John Carl Crews and Daniel Lou Parker Crews Phillips. Holland enlisted in the US Army at a young age and honorably served in occupied Japan and the Korean Conflict. He earned a Purple Heart on the Pusan Perimeter as a member of the 7th Army, 11th Airborne Division. Following his army service, Holland began a career in the civil service at Fort Rucker where he worked until he retired to care for his daughter, Patsy. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on his hobby farm.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Candy Stokes Crews; daughter, Patricia “Patsy” Crews Oliver; grandson, JD Crews; and sister, Mary Ann Crews Morgan.
He is survived by his children, JC Crews (Paula) of Chancellor, AL, Wanda McDonald (Alan) of Dothan, AL, and Jimmy Crews (Diana) of Geneva, AL; grandchildren, Anna Camphouse (David), Catherine Crews, Jonathan Davis, Steven Davis (Samantha), Amanda Philpot (Chauncey), Stephanie Taylor (Mike) and John Crews (Samantha); great grandchildren, Sophia, John, and Paul Camphouse, Oliver, Lily, and Avee Crews, Wesley Davis (Meredith), Christa, Maggie, Bryce, and Wyatt Davis, Dorian and Rosalind Philpot, Jane and Sean Taylor; four great-great grandchildren, Mila and Liam Crews and Farrah and Liam Davis; special nephew, Frank Bartolotti, and a very dear friend, Hazel Falls.
