James Howard Moore, age 77 of Dothan, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug 29,2016, surrounded with the love of his wife, all four of his children and spouses, his eight grandchildren and his cherished brother in a joyful gathering throughout his last day here on earth.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Thursday Sept. 1, 2016 at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Monsignor Patrick Gallagher and the Rev. Lynn Miley will be officiating. Burial will follow after the service. The family will then receive friends at the home of Lann and Rachel Waller.
Jim was born Sept. 28, 1938, in Wheeler, MS to the late Luther Howard Moore and Cora Lea Moore. He grew up in Memphis TN and attended Messick High School where he was a local basketball star, known affectionately as “Hots” because of his stellar basketball shots. He attended Northwest Junior College, Christian Brothers College, and Delta State College on basketball scholarships. Jim was a veteran having serve in the United States Army. He later moved his family to Dothan in 1979 where he started his own real estate appraisal business. His professional designations were SRA, SRPA, and IAAO. He was a successful businessman for over 50 years. Jim was a fun-loving family man who enjoyed playing games and watching TN football. A master prankster, Jim loved celebrating holidays especially Halloween and April Fools Day. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ at St Columba Catholic Church.
Surviving relatives include wife, Barbara Moore; sons Christopher Moore (LeeAnn) and Kingsley Moore (Victoria) all of Birmingham; Son Spencer Moore (Sarah) and daughter Rachel Waller (Lann Waller) all of Dothan; brother Tom Moore of Dothan, sisters Sarah Moore of Puryear TN and Sue Moore of Memphis TN; his half-sister, Barbara Lee of Birmingham; grandsons Jordan, Kendall, and Griffin Moore, Jack and Sam Waller, granddaughter Anlynn Moore, and grandsons Lleyton and James Hastings Moore.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Dothan Kids for Christ.
