DOTHAN. . .James Hurley “Jimmy” Moring, Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday night, April 25, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78.


            Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 29, 2024, in the Columbia City Cemetery with Pastor Westley Bruner officiating and a eulogy to be given by a grandson, David Moring. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:30 A.M. Monday at the cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2431 West Main Street, Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Jimmy Moring was born in Dothan and was reared in Columbia, son of the late James Hurley Moring, Sr. and Doris McGriff Moring. He was a graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia. Jimmy lived in Columbia most of his lifetime before moving to Dothan in 2006. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Jimmy was retired from the City of Dothan after thirty-eight years employment. He was an avid Auburn sports fan, enjoyed western shows, and looked forward to weekly Sunday dinner when he could spend time with his family. Jimmy was preceded in death by a son, David James Moring.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-three years, Sara Evans Moring; a daughter, Dee Harpe (Drew), Dothan; and a son Greg Moring (Lana), Headland; two sisters, Wanda Patterson (Jim), Panama City Beach, FL; and Brenda Greene (Aaron), Auburn, AL; grandchildren, David Moring (Savannah), Austin Swords (Kaylie), Kaitlyn Wiggins (Fisher Parrish), Camille Harpe and Griffin Harpe; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Moring, Ryler-James Swords and Ainslie-Kay Swords; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be David Moring, Austin Swords, Fisher Parrish, Bill Tilley, Erick Cedeno and Jeremy Armstrong.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Jimmy during his illness.
