JAMES J. KIRKLAND
WEBB. . .James J. Kirkland, a resident of Webb, died Saturday night, August 11, 2012, at his home. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday, August 13, 2012, in the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with Reverend Garner Wood and Reverend Ray Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL. 36303 or to the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Dawn Deese, 3393 Hunter Road, Columbia, AL 36319
Mr. Kirkland was born and reared in Webb, son of the late James Dewey Kirkland and Myrtice Gilmore Kirkland. He lived in Abbeville before returning to Webb in 1972. Mr. Kirkland served as a Deacon in the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church where he was a long time member. He was formerly employed by Sony Corporation and in earlier years, was engaged in farming. Mr. Kirkland owned and operated Kirkland’s Wiggler Farm. Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Kirkland, and two sisters, Murelle Short and Eloise Franklin.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Margaret Wilson Kirkland, Webb; a son, Charles Rex Kirkland, Webb; a sister, Billie Jewell Blankenship, Clio; two grandchildren, Candace Kirkland and Terrin Kirkland.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Christopher Cobb, Nathan Cobb, Blake Cochran, Adam Cochran, Jason Kirkland and Jackie Smith.
