ABBEVILLE….James J. McCartha, a resident of Abbeville, died early Saturday morning, November 7, 2015, in Twin Magnolias Assisted Living in Abbeville. He was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 10, 2015, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Mr. Darden Kirby officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Providence Cemetery, Glenwood, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Twin Magnolias Assisted Living, 3084 U.S. Highway 431, South, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mr. McCartha, son of the late James Ratliff McCartha and Viola Brown McCartha, was born in Butler County and was reared near Brantley in Crenshaw County. He formerly lived in Opp and Eufaula before moving to Abbeville in 2010. Mr. McCartha was retired from the grocery store industry having worked at the Piggly Wiggly in Opp and Woodham’s IGA in Eufaula. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Mr. McCartha was preceded in death by his wife of sixty three years, Anna Laura Duncan McCartha, his daughter, Rose Marie McCartha and all of his brothers and sisters.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Otha Ray McCartha (Paula), New Smyrna, FL, Rockey S. McCartha (Emily), Eufaula, and Darryl Keith McCartha (Patty), Midland City; nine grandchildren, Rockey, Jr., Rhiana, Cindy, Tim, William, Duncan, Joseph, Abbey and James; several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
