James “Jim” Allen Knight, a resident of Ozark, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. He was 82.


Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 5, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10-11 am.


Mr. Knight was born on June 13, 1937 in Decatur, Georgia and lived the early years of his life in Richfield, Minnesota. He joined the US Marines and served for 3 years. He later then joined the US Army and graduated from flight school and served three tours in Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and was on active duty service for 22 years until his retirement in 1977. Following his retirement, he was a flight instructor with Civil Service. He was later employed at Ft. Rucker MWR, managing the equestrian center until he retired. Mr. Knight was active with Dothan Boots and Saddle Club where he served as Director.


Survivors include his wife, Margery Knight; his son, Steve Knight; his daughters, Kelly Ann, (Robert Lee) Hughes and Alexander, (Cody) Cary; his 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Hughes and Robert Lee “Trey” Hughes, III; his 5 great-grandchildren, Cooper Chase McGowan, Abbie Cary, Allie Cary, Aubrey Cary, and Autumn Cary.
