Mr. Wagner was born July 1, 1938 in Pensacola, Florida to James Marshall and Thelma Louise Lepoidevant Wagner. He lived the early years of his life in Pensacola and was a 1958 graduate of Pensacola High School. He later graduated from Regents College in New York where he received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Following his high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines and served for 22 years prior to his retirement as MSgt.
In 1983, Mr. Wagner began his career working with the nuclear weapons program with the Department of Defense as a logistics management specialist and completed his career as a Hazmat instructor, retiring after 30 years of service.
Jim was a sincere and consistent follower of Jesus. He grieved his own shortcomings, celebrated God’s love, trusted in God’s Word, desired God’s best for others, delighted in the call to be a disciple, and extended grace to all. He held himself to a very high standard, yet did not think of himself more highly than others. He lived as a beggar who had found bread and yearned for the opportunity to share this bread, because he had found the Bread of Life, Jesus, his Savior. He was a faithful member of Westwood Presbyterian Church.
He is predeceased by his parents, his grandmother, Mary Hickman “Mimi”, two daughters, Tami Scherffius and Robin Meador; three siblings, Barbara Phillips, William Wise and Larry Wise.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dianne Wagner; children, Tracy Wells (Charles), Kim Wagner, Micheal Nims, Ginger Nims (Bob), Christine McDowell, Doug and Denise Winks, Mark and Tina Eister; 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one on the way, three siblings, Kenny Wise, Pat Harrison and Gary Baker.
