James “Jimmy” Forest Hatcher Jr., a resident of Texasville, Alabama passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at his residence. He was 72 years old.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glover Funeral Home in Clayton, Alabama with Bro. Craig Long officiating, and Glover Funeral Home directing. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Slocomb, Alabama with Bro. Don Hatcher officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Jimmy was born July 23, 1951, in Hartford, Alabama to James Forest Hatcher Sr. and Mary Frances Davis Hatcher. He was a 1969 graduate of Slocomb High School and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Troy State University. Jimmy retired from the NRCS in Clayton, Alabama with over 20 years of service. While employed there he was a “friend to the farmers” and enjoyed talking with them about their farmland and their everyday lives. He was awarded the Jerry L. Johnson Award for Public Service in 2017. Jimmy also loved being a houseparent for the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranches, where he was known by the children as Pop Hatcher. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing at his favorite fishing hole, Dead Lakes, gardening, attending Troy baseball games, watching Alabama football, and supporting many youth sporting events. He loved the Lord, listening to southern gospel music, and was a member of Rhema Baptist Church in Blue Springs, Alabama.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Left to cherish his memories are his mother; loving wife of 48 years, Marilyn Joy Barnett Hatcher; two sons, Joshua Hatcher (Pam) of Franklin, Tennessee and Jason Hatcher (Katharine) of Sugarland, Texas; two brothers, Johnny Hatcher of Wewahitchka, Florida and Jerry Hatcher (Amanda) of Rehobeth, Alabama; four grandchildren, Hadley Hatcher, Eli Hatcher, Olivia Hatcher, and Evelyn Hatcher.
