James L. Chalker 84 of Dothan Al, formally of Clayhatchee AL, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10th from 12pm-2pm at Sunset Funeral Home in Dothan, AL. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Encompass Hospice, 3230 Ross Clark Circle Suite 1, Dothan AL 36303.
James was born in 1935 in Dale County to Jim & Jewel Chalker. He was the youngest of 4 children. James joined the Army and he served for a time in Germany. After military service, James obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy University. He had carrier pursuits as a Probation Officer and a Draftsman. James was a music lover and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He especially loved old Country music. He was a talented artist; he would paint and sculp. He really had a talent for combining art with engineering. James loved having interesting intelligent, and sometimes spirited conversations, usually while sitting out on the porch.
James was preceded in death by his parents Jim & Jewel Chalker, two sisters, Jimmy Chalker Brannon, and Frankie Chalker Howard, a brother Sam Chalker and a nephew Steve Brannon. James is survived by a niece, Kim Brannon Crimmins of New Mexico formally of Dothan AL, a nephew, Todd Howard of Loxley AL and two great nieces, Jessica Beck and of Tallahassee FL and Victoria Howard of Loxley AL.
