James L. Dean
James L. “Jimmy” Dean, 68, a resident of Dothan, earned his wings Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his residence.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Eddie Biss officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Dean was born March 14, 1946 in Dothan, AL and was a graduate of Dothan High School. Jimmy was a musician for many years before obtaining a degree in graphic design from George C. Wallace Community College. He worked for the Dothan Eagle for a short time before he established his own company, Jimmy Dean Advertising. Mr. Dean achieved numerous honors throughout his life. Jimmy’s passion was oil painting. He also enjoyed wood working and reading. He had been the president of the Genealogy Society and Civil War Society. Jimmy was of the Baptist faith.
Jimmy’s love was his music. Some of the bands he played bass for were Beaverteeth, The James Gang, and The Strangers. He was able to help with fundraisers for several organizations, including the first and second ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease.)
Mr. Dean is predeceased by his parents, Earnest and Emma Dean.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Dean of Dothan; step-daughter, Sharlon Seiffert (Randy) of South Carolina; a grandson, Fynnly James Seiffert of South Carolina; two brothers, Richard Dean (Ann) of Stewart, Florida and Robert Dean of Dothan.
