James L. Smith, 97, a resident of Newville, AL passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at his residence.


Mr. Smith was born July 7, 1917 in North Baltimore, OH and lived the early part of his life in Dublin, OH and was a 1935 graduate of Dublin High School. He attended Ohio State University and farmed for several years prior to moving to Miami, FL in 1950 where he was employed with Flagler Federal as an appraiser until his retirement. He resided in Pompano Beach, FL until moving to Newville in March of 2015. Mr. Smith was a member of Hollywood Hills United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was also a musician with the Hollywood Pops Orchestra, the Dixie Land Band, The Aristocrats, and The Mummers.


Survivors include his wife Dede Smith; his sons, Donald (Lolita) Smith and Richard (Elisa) Smith; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; step-children, Alan Kauffman and Sue Ellen Schiller; 2 sisters, Jane Freeland and Ella Mae Belt.
