JAMES LARRY CHANCEY

ABBEVILLE…James Larry Chancey, a resident of Abbeville, died early Saturday morning, August 25, 2012, at his residence. He was 73. 

            Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 27, 2012, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mickey Skinner and Ryan Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary. 

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Memorial Chairperson, P O Box 2123, Dothan, AL  36302. 

            Mr. Chancey was born and reared in the Old Center community of Henry County, son of the late Ozro Darwin Chancey and Edna Marvell Hicks Chancey. He formerly lived in Dothan before moving to Lake Eufaula in 2000 and then to the Wills Cross Roads community in 2011. Mr. Chancey was retired from Smith’s Inc. in Dothan after twelve years of employment. In earlier years he was employed by Chancey-Herring Publishers, Inc. in Dothan and Headland. Mr. Chancey was an avid supporter of Alabama Crimson Tide football and was a member of the Old Center United Methodist Church. 

            Surviving relatives include his wife Ruby Sanders Chancey, Abbeville; five daughters Kathleen Humphrey, Abbeville, Kathryn Register and husband, Bill, Dothan, Lynn Chancey Fritsch and husband, Don, California, Monia Chancey Nelson and husband, John, Dothan, and Carol Chancey Barber and husband, Tim, Webb; two sons Lee Lewis and wife, Kim, Napier Field, and Nelson Chancey, Dothan; one sister Virginia Chancey Slaughter and husband, Nick, Tumbleton community; one brother Wayne Chancey and wife, Elaine, Headland; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Bobby Bailey, Darren Bailey, Larry Bond, Joe Cobb, Denny Holloway and Randy Jones.
