The family requests memorials be made to Pleasant Ridge UMC of North County Rd. 65, Geneva, AL. They can be mailed to the church at 701 North County Rd. 65, Geneva, AL 36340.
James was a member of Pleasant Ridge UMC and Geneva First UMC. He served on many boards and committees of the Methodist Church. He was very active in the community, serving as little league coach for his son’s sports team, and working with the Samson Quarterback Club. He was an unabashed Alabama football fan gathering at home with family and friends to watch games. He taught Sunday school and with his wife, sponsored the youth groups at the church.
Following his retirement, James found it hard to give up daily work, and soon began employment with the Geneva County Road and Bridge where he was still employed at the time of his death. There he found a new calling daily interacting with the employees of the department, teasing, cajoling, and encouraging them. He loved his work.
