James Marcus “Jim” Nelms, a resident of Pinckard, died early Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016, at his home. He was 74.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016, in the Pinckard Baptist Church with Reverend Chris Woodall and Reverend Tom Skeen officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pinckard Baptist Church, P.O. Box 188, Pinckard, AL 36371, or to the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 389 County Road 506, Ozark, AL 36360.


            Mr. Nelms was born in Buena Vista, Georgia, and was reared in Abbeville, son of the late James Kelso Nelms and Alma Sowell Nelms. He was a 1961 graduate of Abbeville High School and attended Wallace Community College. He received a B. S. Degree in Education from Athens State University in Athens, Alabama. Mr. Nelms was retired as a Technical Instructor in upholstery from Wallace Community College in Dothan. He was a member of the Pinckard Baptist Church. His hobbies were camping, fishing, his RV and woodworking. Mr. Nelms was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Naramore and Janice Woodham.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Diane Wester Nelms; his children, Melinda Nelms, Dothan; Steve Nelms, Cottonwood; Shanna Rivers, Dothan; Dana Rivers Evans, Pinckard; and Kandis Rivers Bainter (Darrell), Panama City Beach, FL; Neel Rivers, Tallahassee, FL; seven grandchildren, Tyler Still, Mollie Still, Kaleb Nelms, Brandon Evans (Jennifer), Cassidy Evans, Piper Bainter and Tiffany Bainter; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Evans and EmmaLeigh Evans; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Tyler Still, Jerry Naramore, Wayne Naramore, Jeff Woodham, Bryce Woodham, and James Palmer.
