ABBEVILLE. . . James Merlyn Lipscomb, a resident of the Screamer Community of Henry County, died Tuesday morning, June 6, 2017, in a Dothan hospital. He was 79.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 8, 2017, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Larry Sowell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the mortuary chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35213.
Mr. Lipscomb was a lifelong resident of the Screamer Community of Henry County, son of the late Clarence Lipscomb, Sr. and Lorene Dobbs Lipscomb. He served his country in the Alabama Army National Guard in the Abbeville Unit. Mr. Lipscomb was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He was retired from Alabama Kraft in Cottonton, Alabama. Mr. Lipscomb was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Ray Yoemans, two sisters, Mary Jernigan and Elva Money, and two brothers, Clarence Lipscomb, Jr. and Sammy Lipscomb.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sarah Sowell Lipscomb; a daughter, Beverly Lipscomb, Abbeville; a son, James A. Lipscomb (Pam), Headland; five grandchildren, Hilary Yoemans, Tyler Lipscomb, Eva Shae Lipscomb, Alex Arnold (Sabrina), and Chelsey Arnold; two great-grandchildren, Jason Gronberg and Wyatt Arnold; three sisters, Myrtle Chalkley (Gene), Columbus, GA; Delaphaine White, Abbeville; and Eva Lois Henry, Cottonwood; brothers-in-law, Mitchell Jernigan, George Allen Money and William Sowell (Alice), and a sister-in-law, Doris Folds (Billy); several nieces and nephews.
