COLUMBIA. . .James O. Williams, a resident of Columbia, died Thursday morning, February 16, 2017, in a Dothan hospital. He was 83.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19, 2017, in the Columbia City Cemetery with Reverend Don Tew officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:15 until 1:30 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elliott-Rogers American Legion Post No. 166, c/o Gerald McKissack, 1368 Main Street, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mr. Williams was a native of Bascom, Florida, son of the late Orbie Reginald Williams and Sallie Evelyn Conrad Williams. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Williams formerly lived in Malone, Florida before moving to Columbia in 1999. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bascom, Florida and the Elliott-Rogers American Legion Post in Columbia. In earlier years, Mr. Williams was engaged in farming. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Williams.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Brenda Bryan Williams, Columbia; three daughters, Barbara Taylor (Steve), Marianna; Joy Patrick (Greg), and Ann Williams, all of Bascom; a son, James Michael Williams (Patricia), Malone; two step-daughters, Vicki McKnight, Dothan; and Jennifer Long (Shawn), Ashford; a step-son, Greg Griffin (Stephanie), Columbus, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Kristin Sherer (John), Karen Cook (Jason), Melissa Robles (Ray), Laura Taylor, Ashley Merrifield (John), Christopher Williams (Kayla), Dustin Rivenbark (Aimee), Logan McKnight, Emily McKnight, Matthew Griffin, Daniel Griffin, Natalie Griffin and Raea Parker (Lynn); eight great-grandchildren; his special canine friend, “Bo”.
Serving as active pallbearers, Steven Welch, Jamie Peeler, Dustin Land, Scott Calloway, Kenny Bryan, Ronnie Calloway, Ronnie Brown and Brandon Welch.
