James Oscar Lanton Jr., born on June 18, 1950, in Donalsonville, Georgia passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 2PM in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Sowell officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 2-4PM. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will be accepting flowers.
James is predeceased by his parents, James Lanton Sr., and Dorothy Pearson Lanton, as well as his 11 brothers and sisters. James's enduring legacy is carried on by his devoted wife of 53 years, Wilma Stiffy Lanton; his loving daughter, Sher'rie Dye; and his cherished grandson, Timothy Dye; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James fought for his country in the Vietnam War and, later in life, he retired from the Water Department at the City of Dothan, AL. He was a man of the outdoors. He found solace in fishing and spending time with his family by the lake. His life was a testament to courage, a value that he both lived and inspired. He will be remembered for his unwavering strength and the indelible mark he left on his community.
