COLUMBIA…James Otis Money, Sr., a resident of Columbia, died early Tuesday morning, May 4, 2021, at his home. He was 91.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 8, 2021, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Pastor Vann Cooley officiating. Graveside services, with Masonic Rites and Military Honors, will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mr. Money was born and reared in Haleburg, son of the late Otis Money and Retta Louise Holley Money. He served in the Army National Guard in the Headland Unit, which was activated during the Korean War. Mr. Money retired as a Millwright from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers of America Local No. 1723, Columbus, Georgia. In earlier years, he was employed by Freeman Wholesale and was Columbia’s first barber. Mr. Money was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia and the Columbia Masonic Lodge No. 135. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Margaret Money, a great-grandson, James Chayson Kennedy, his first wife, Wylene Hasty Money, three sisters, Fauvette Money Carter, Leona Money Hix and Beatrice Money Bristow and three brothers, Byron Money, Sr., B.C. Money Sr. and Frank Money, Sr.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Susan Money Hudgins (Hardy), Patmos, GA; Angie Money Barber (Tony), Hoover, AL; and Shea Money McDaniel, Columbia; a son, James Otis Money, Jr. (Glenda), Blakely, GA; eight grandchildren, Mandy Dean (Jared), Rex Hudgins (Brittany), Niki Denison (Kaylan), Brandi Bryant (Travis), M/Sgt. James Money, III (Aly), Scott Kennedy, Hannah McDaniel and Jay Dauenhauer; fourteen great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, Kathy Holland (Craig), Jennifer Brown and John Wesley Brown (Jeanie); seven step-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be, Rex Hudgins, Scott Kennedy, James Money, Gil Bristow, Irvin Carter, Jr. and Don Carter. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Brown and members of the Masonic Order.
The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Burnestine Oliver, Mollie Carter, Allyson Habron, Ashley Sellars and Kindred Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Money during his illness.
