JAMES PHILLIP WALKER, SR.
COLUMBIA. . .James Phillip Walker, Sr., a resident of Columbia, died late Saturday night, January 17, 2015, at his home. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Reverend Tony Deese and Dr. Walter Reeder officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Columbia, P.O. Box 267, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mr. Walker was born and reared near Dickinson in Clarke County, Alabama, son of the late R. C. Walker and Helen Phillips Walker. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Walker moved to Columbia in 1972. Mr. Walker was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and served with the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Walker retired as a heavy equipment operator from Operating Engineers of Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by a brother, Garrett Walker.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth Criswell Walker, two daughters, Cindy Fowler (John), and Tabitha Waterworth, a son, James Phillip Walker, Jr. (Sherry), all of Columbia; two sisters, Hettie Reeves (J.W.), and Vera Bolton (Don), two brothers, Bootsey Walker, and Lucius Walker, all of Dickinson, Alabama; five grandchildren, Addison Waterworth, Hannah Waterworth, John Fowler (Rachel), Jacqlyn Kirkland (Scotty), and Jessica Fowler; three great-grandchildren, Rocco Fowler, Makenna Fowler, and John Cauley Kirkland; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Will Brackin, Gabe Miller, Jessie Ingram, Clay Hamm, John Fowler, Jr. and David Rivenbark. Serving as honorary pallbearers will members of the Men’s Sunday School Class.
