James Preston Spears, Sr.
James P. Spears, Sr., age 76 of Midland City died Saturday afternoon November 10, 2018 at Noland Hospital in Dothan.
Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the Chapel of Angels at Family First Funeral & Cremation Care with Pastor David Lewis of Ewell Bible Baptist Church of Ozark officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.
James was born in Geneva County son of the late Buford Preston Spears and Lula Motley Spears. He spent his childhood years in the Eden and Beaver Dam Communities of Geneva County. James served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Berlin Missile Crisis. He had worked with Houston County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy for 17 years and later retired from Ft. Rucker as an A&P Mechanic with Army Fleet Support. James was a 32nd Degree Mason and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife Sarah H. Melton Spears of Midland City, 2 sons James Preston Spears, Jr and his special friend Heather both of Midland City, Jamey Michael (Kimberly) Spears of Dothan, 2 daughters Sarah Leah Melton of Midland City, Robin Melton (Christopher) Thomas of Warner Robins, Ga., 3 brothers Will “Buddy” (Versie) Motley, Douglas (Karen) Spears, Daniel T. (Jan) Spears all of Tampa, Fl., 3 sisters Edna Lucille Fahlsing of Tampa, Fl., Annie Ruth (Ed) Everette of San Diego, Ca., Sarah Katherine Childers, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Care for the Spears family is being provided by Randy Crenshaw, Jason Shepard and staff at Family First Funeral & Cremation Care.
