James Robert Blocker age 77 of Sun City, Arizona, formally of Hartford, Alabama passed to heaven on July 29, 2018.


Memorial services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with Rev. Jean Spikes officiating and under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home.


He was born on May 5, 1941 in Geneva County, Alabama. He was the son of the late Willie B. and Quillie Enfinger Blocker. He attended the public schools of Geneva Country Alabama graduating from Geneva County High School in 1959.



He served in the United States Air Force for 8 years, Air Force Reserve for 1 year and Wyoming Air National Guard for 10 years. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1972 and 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in history and nursing, respectively. He served in the United States Army as an Army nurse for 14 1/2 years, retiring with the rank of Major.


He married Carol Ruth Wilson, daughter of Claude and Jane Wilson, on December 31, 1966 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They had 2 children: James Edward and Holly Suzanne.


He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and older brother, Willie Edward Blocker.


He is survived by his wife, Carol; children: son James Edward and daughter-in-law Tina Marie of Leesburg, Virginia; daughter Holly Suzanne and son-in-law James Richard Arentz of Euless, Texas; two grandsons: Wyatt Edward and Tate Sylvester Blocker of Leesburg, Virginia; and grand dogs Linus Arentz and Saber Blocker.


He had a huge heart and greatly loved his family and friends. He will be forever remembered for his love of Bama football, grand story-telling, and infectious humor. He always had a joke in his heart. His gentleness and loving smile will be missed. “May you fly high and come down soft in Heaven.”
