Mr. James Rudolph “Rudy” McCord, 86, a resident of Dothan, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at Southeast Health following a brief illness.


Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Glover Funeral Home in the chapel with Reverend Andy Hunter and Mr. Tommy Starling officiating. Family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing.


Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL, 36301.


Mr. McCord was born February 19, 1938, in Dothan, Alabama to the late Harvey Lewis and Tessie Leola (Davis) McCord. He graduated from Ashford High School in 1956. Mr. McCord served in the Army Reserve for 5 years, then began his career as a police officer with the Dothan Police Department. “Rudy” was married to the love of his life, Mrs. Peggy Ann Starling McCord for 64 years and raised two wonderful children. Rudy loved watching and cheering on his favorite college football team, the Auburn Tigers. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for 61 years.


He is pre-deceased by his parents; granddaughter, Amber McCord, grandson, Randy Deese; four brothers, Ralph, Raymond, Randall, and Billy McCord as well as five sisters, Christine Glass, Mildred Lewis, Dorothy Kinlaw, Sarah Peeples, and Martha Arnett.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Peggy Ann McCord, of Dothan; two children, James McCord (Tina) of Dothan, and Sheila Luker (Tony) of Dothan; one brother, Jimmy McCord (Judy) of Dothan; two grandchildren, Stephen McCord, and Brandi Deese; two great grandchildren, Hayden Sherrouse (Caleb) and Annalei McCord; great-great-grandchild Caylee Ann Sherrouse; step grandchildren, Justin and April Luker, Barry Curtis, James and Sara Curtis, Shawn and Faith Curtis; step great-grandchildren, Dalton and Liam Luker, Keller Youngblood, Archer Curtis, Gavin Hudspeth; sisters-in-law Meryl McCord, of Cottonwood and Leneve McCord of Ashford; brother-in-law Gary Peeples, of Tuscaloosa; a very special brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Sybil Starling; several nieces and nephews.


Serving as Pallbearers will be the Dothan Police Department Honor Guard.
