James Thomas “Tommy” Kirkland
James Thomas “Tommy” Kirkland, age 86 of Webb, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at his residence under the care of Kindred Hospice and with his loving family by his side.
Tommy was born in Houston County on May 18, 1935, to the late Kirby W. and Marie Woodham Kirkland. Tommy loved the Lord and was a proud Christian man. He was an active member of Cowarts Baptist Church, where he was present every Sunday for Sunday School for 28 years without ever missing a Sunday. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve. He was a longtime bookkeeper for Dairy Fresh prior to his retirement. In his spare time, Tommy enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Funeral services for Tommy will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 11am in the Cowarts Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Sorensen, assisted by Reverend Kevin Kelly. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10am. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Cowarts Baptist Church, P.O. Box 10, Cowarts, AL 36321.
In addition to his parents, Tommy is preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Clayton, and a brother, William Hilson. He is survived by wife of 65 years, Eleanor Faye Kirkland of Webb; a son and daughter-in-law, James Anthony “Tony” and Trecia Kirkland of Webb; a sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Ray Kelly of Abbeville. He is also survived by a grandson and his wife, Tory and Diana Kirkland of Panama City Beach, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.
