Mr. James Williford Parrish of Hartford passed away Monday, September 5, 2016.  He was 84.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 9 at Hartford Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood and Rev. Bruce Spivey officiating.  Burial will follow in Malvern Baptist Church Cemetery with Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home directing.  Family and friends may visit at Hartford Baptist Church on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hartford Retirement Village, 12196 East State Highway 52, Hartford, Alabama 36344 or Hartford Baptist Church, 105 East Burch Street, Hartford, Alabama 36344.


Mr. Parrish was born October 31, 1931.  He graduated from Geneva County High School in 1950 and for many years wrote a class newsletter.  He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1956 where he was a sports writer. He served his country in the Korean War.  He spent many years in Mobile, AL working as an insurance claims adjuster. He taught Sunday School at Sage Avenue Baptist for several years.  He was married to Neville Carpenter for 17 years and they had three daughters; Nancy Parrish, Emily Parrish who preceded him in death, and Sally Parrish Mosley.  Four grandchildren; Marie (David) Parker, Melissa Gibbs, Emily (Brad) Roberson, and David Mosley.  A step-daughter; Glenda (Rick) Weston and two step grandchildren:  Eric (Holly) Weston and Elliot Weston.  He enjoyed golf, Auburn Football, baseball, and loved playing softball up into his sixties. He was a great athlete and a strong Christian. He showed love and compassion to all people. He was a good father and grandfather to his family and he will be greatly missed.  Honorary pall bearers are the Barraca Sunday School Class.


The family would like to thank the Barraca Sunday School Class, the staff at Hartford Retirement Village and HealthSouth of Dothan.
