James Williford Slaughter, passed away on October 26, 2024, at Extendicare in Dothan, Alabama surrounded by his family. Born on April 12, 1933, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he lived a full and vibrant life that touched many.


James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jack Slaughter and Ruby Williford Slaughter, his devoted wife of 65 years, Nellie Myrl Slaughter, and a grandson, James Wesley Slaughter. His legacy continues through his sons, Dennis Slaughter (Kerrie) and Darwin Slaughter (Donna), his grandchildren, Jacob Macfadden (Taylor), Jennifer Macfadden, Ryan Macfadden (Jennifer), Caroline, and Abigail Slaughter, and his special niece, Debbie Jones (Sammy). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Lukas Macfadden and will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.



James honorably served his country for four years in the Navy, an experience that instilled in him a sense of discipline and pride that he carried throughout his life. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, as he was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, in Slocomb, Alabama where he found great comfort and community.


An avid fan of Alabama football, James’s enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he could often be found cheering on his favorite team surrounded by family and friends. His love for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his patience and appreciation for nature’s tranquility.

Those who knew James will remember him as a man of great character. He approached life with a gentle spirit and a warm heart, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Monday, October 28, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Slocomb, AL. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM at First Baptist Church in Slocomb. Flowers will be accepted.
