James Winston Griffin, 92, of Dothan, Al. and formerly of Blakely, Ga. for many years, died early Saturday morning, March 12, 2016 at the Southast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. His funeral will be held Monday morning, March 14, 2016 at 11 A M EDT at the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. George Atherholt officiating. Burial will follow at 2 PM EDT in the Ebenezer Cemetery, out from Columbia Alabama. The family will receive friends at the church Monday morning from 10Am EDT until funeral time.
Mr. Griffin was born in Columbia, Al. June 6, 1923 to the late James Walter Griffin and Sarah Elizabeth Williams Griffin. He was a retired farmer, member of the New Hope Baptist Church, a Mason, Blakely American Legion and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a sister; Ruth Nall and 2 brother-in-laws; Auburn Nall and Ralph Bradford.
Mr. Griffin is survived by a sister: Carolyn Bradford of Lincoln, Al. a brother; Leonard Griffin and wife Romona of Dothan, Al. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be: Ray Jordan, David Bradford, Jimmy Nall, Scott Griffin, Tyner Cooper and Emmett Mock. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacey Cooper, Jerome Nall and members of the American Legion Post # 11, Blakely, Ga.
