James Winston Shelley, 97, a resident of Ashford, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.


Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Watermark Church in Ashford with Reverend Todd Thorpe, and Reverend Mark Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday prior to service time.


Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Watermark Church “Building Fund”, 103 Elmer Road, Ashford, AL 36312.


Mr. Shelley was born July 24, 1926, in Tumbleton, Alabama to Walt  and Lessie Shelley and moved to Ashford at an early age. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Shelley was engaged in farming all his working life. He enjoyed gospel music and sang solos and with groups in churches and Senior Citizens Centers with guitar always in hand. Mr. Shelley was a member of Watermark Church.


He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Miller Shelley, grandsons, John Ingram and Daniel Ingram, a brother, Wade Shelley, and a sister-in-law, Wilma Shelley.


He is survived by his children, Mickey (Bonnie) Shelley of Ashford, Beverly (Rick) Pickard of Abbeville, Patti (Jimmy) Paramore of Ashford and Duane (Marsha) Shelley of Ashford; grandchildren, Todd Shelley, Jeffery (Danielle) Shelley, Suzie (Daks) Hogan, Terry (Brandi) Paramore and Brian (Jessica) Paramore; great-grandchildren, Hudson (Savannah) Shelley, Haisten (Madison) Shelley, Elijah (Kayla) Shelley, Jozie Shelley, Madison Harris, Cowen Ingram, Kandalyn James, Marley, Sophie, Jillian and Will Hogan, Clay Paramore (Meaghan Hutchison) and Collin Paramore, Coy, Harrison, Miller and Anna Paramore; great-great grandchildren, Adalynn Harris and Winston and Clara Shelley; brothers, Euil Shelley and Bennie Frank (Janie) Shelley, sister-in-law, Linda Shelley, and several nieces and nephews.


Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.


The family would like to extend their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and special caregivers for the compassionate care given to their loved one.
