ABBEVILLE. . .Jane Riley Salyers, a resident of Abbeville, died unexpectedly Wednesday night, September 10, 2014, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. She was 57.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 13, 2014, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35213.
Jane Salyers was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, daughter of the late Lewis Clinton Riley and Melba Doswell Riley. She was a 1975 graduate of the Abbeville Christian Academy and attended Wallace Community College, Dothan, where she received an Associate’s Degree as a Registered Nurse. Jane was employed by Eufaula High School as a Health Occupations Teacher. In earlier years, she was employed as a Registered Nurse in the office of Dr. David Wetherby, the Ft. Gaines Nursing Home, and the Early Memorial Nursing Home. Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville. She was preceded in death by step-sisters, Virginia Harrison, and Dorothy Powers. Jane dearly loved her immediate family, and her extended family at Eufaula High School.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Les Salyers, Abbeville; two daughters, Janel Weems (Fiance’ Tristan Folkes), Cottonwood; Denise Phillips (John Allen Phillips), Headland; a son, Jason Weems (Ashleigh), Haleburg; a sister, Elizabeth Earle, Headland; a step-sister, Helen Peebles, Tallahassee, FL; three grandchildren, Riley Jane Phillips, John Tillman Phillips, and Ellie Jae Weems; nieces, Beverly Cody (Donald), Jennifer Woodham, and Nicole Harrell (Brandon).
Serving as active pallbearers will be Stuart Weems, Jason Weems, John Allen Phillips, Tristan Folkes, Lloyd Rayphole, and Patrick Salyers.
