Janice H. Rhodes

Janice H. Rhodes, a faith-filled, creative, and loving soul, was born on October 2nd, 1928, and walked into the arms of Jesus on Resurrection Sunday, April 9th, 2023, in Panama City Beach, Florida. Janice's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and determination, as she gracefully navigated the many roles she played throughout her time on this earth.

Janice was born into a world that was vastly different from the one she left behind, yet she never shied away from embracing change and growth. She attended Mars Hill College in North Carolina before graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Troy University. Her educational pursuits laid the foundation for a successful career, where she worked for many years as a supervisor with the State of Alabama Employment Office, eventually retiring from her position. Janice's faith in God played a significant role in her life, since 1954, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan, where she served as a WMU Member and was a member of the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class. Her faith gave her strength and purpose, allowing her to face life's challenges with grace and courage. As Helen Keller once said, "Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light." Janice's faith-filled life was indeed a beacon of light for those who knew her. Creativity was a driving force in Janice's life, and she had many talents that she used to bring joy and beauty to the world around her. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating beautiful clothing and home furnishings that showcased her keen eye for design. Janice's love for cooking allowed her to create delicious meals that brought her family together around the table, sharing laughter and love. Her flair for decorating transformed her home into a welcoming oasis, where friends and family could gather to celebrate life's milestones or simply enjoy each other's company. Janice's involvement in her community was another testament to her passion for making a difference in the lives of others. She was an active part of the 21st Century Study Club, serving as a charter member and a past Vice President, and a member of the Dothan Country Club. These associations allowed her to connect with like-minded individuals who shared her commitment to service and personal growth. As we remember Janice H. Rhodes, let us be inspired by her faith, creativity, and love. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of experiences and relationships that touched countless lives, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. In the words of the renowned poet Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Janice's loving spirit will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Janice was deeply committed to her family, cherishing her relationships with her late husband, R. M. (Dusty) Rhodes, her daughter and son-in-law Marcia and Greg Graber of Haslet, Texas, and her son Steve Rhodes of Newnan, Georgia. Janice's love extended to her five wonderful grandchildren, one step-grandson, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed to know her warmth and care.

May her life be a reminder to us all to live with purpose, love without reservation, and face adversity with unwavering faith. Rest in peace, Janice H. Rhodes. Your light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who love you.
