Janie E. Simmons of Geneva, AL passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 in a Dothan Hospital. She was 76 years old.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Geneva with Russell Johnson delivering the Eulogy and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Simmons memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mrs. Simmons was born on February 28, 1943 to the late George Middleton and Josephine E. Gilliland Echols. Janie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful southern cook. She loved her family, but above all else she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one grandson, Christian S. Bates; one brother, George Middleton Echols, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Mary Louise Crews; father and mother-in-law, W.B Simmons, Sr. and Lillian T. Simmons.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William Boswell Simmons, Jr. of Geneva; three children Elizabeth C. Simmons, William Boswell Simmons, III (Karinne), and Celia L. Simmons all of Geneva; six grandchildren, William Boswell Simmons, IV of Geneva, Hanna Simmons Waldner (Ben) of Coffee Springs, Kessler Bates (Shelby) of Virginia Beach, VA, Lilli Beth Bates of Geneva, Jay Greene (Lacie) of Headland, and Wykle Greene of Blacksburg, VA; four great-grandchildren, Liam K. Bates, Lyla Belle Simmons, Ruthie Elizabeth Waldner, and baby Girl Bates that is due in March 2020; brothers and sisters, Charles Echols (Donna) of Arizona, James P. Echols (Marcia) of Texas, Kitty Marriott (Gordon) of Arizona, Clement Echols (Dulce) of California, and Stuart Echols (Dee Dee) of Alabama; one sister-in-law, Nancy J. Bull (Robert); and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 2 South, Flowers Hospital, and the staff of Covenant Hospice for their efficiency, kindness, compassion, and Christian love shown for our loved one, Janie E. Simmons over the last few weeks.
