Ms. Janie Margaret Powers Baxley, age 75, a resident of Slocomb died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at her residence following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church (Fadette Community) with Reverend Dan Raley officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at Glover Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Jan Efurd, 85 Hidden Springs Ct., Dothan (behind Mt. Gilead Baptist Church off Brannon Stand and County Line Roads).
Ms. Baxley was born on March 2, 1938 in Florence, SC. She was the daughter of Charles T. & Betty Elizabeth Brooks Powers. Janie worked as a sitter in the Healthcare Industry and was a member of First Baptist Church in Slocomb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Edward Powers and a step-father, John W. Fry.
Survivors include: Three daughters, Cynthia Ann Franklin, Texas City, TX; Janet Leigh Efurd (Ed), Dothan; and Marcia Celeste Baxley, Dothan; a brother, Richard W. (Lenora) Powers, Florrisant, CO; a sister, Barbara Benedict, Maine; five grandchildren, Tori A. Peay (Ron Freeman), Dickinson, TX, Albert Peay, Jr. (Angelia), Columbia, SC, Haley D. Baxley (Lee Roberts), (Dothan), Russell S. (Ashley) Powell, Wicksburg, and Ben D. Efurd, Dothan; and eight great-grandchildren; the Father of her children, James David Baxley, Slocomb; and a special "son", Henley Hicks, Slocomb.
In lieu of flowers, Ms. Baxley requested contributions be made to either the Slocomb Senior Citizens Center or the First Baptist Church of Slocomb Benevolence Fund.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan is in charge of the arrangements.
